Allergy to blue food dye?

My neighbor gave my two year old son a popsicle with blue food dye. Soon his face turned bright red and splotchy and he became very agitated and hyper. Has this happened to anyone else? He is allergic to oranges and oats.
Thanks,
Jennifer

I have heard of allergy to food dyes.  Other thoughts that cross my mind are cross-contamination (with orange flavoring), a new allergy, or the citric acid (since he's allergic to oranges).

You are probably right about the fruit juice! I'll ask my neighbor to see the ingrediants. Thanks!

I talked to two friends with kids allergic to red dye, and they said it makes their kids hyper.  They don't allow any dyes for their kids.

If it's not the fruit juice/flavorings, it might be the dye.

G/L.

I checked the ingredients, and it didn't list orange juice but it did have pear and strawberry and grape. He's not allergic to those that I know of. We are watching the food dye as it does tend to make him hyper. This time he was red and blotchy, too. Just not sure what caused it, but we will be avoiding food coloring when we can.
Thanks!
