Home food trials not going so well
Nathan (14.5 months) now seems to be ok with watermelon. We also have re-introduced bananas and green peas. I started bananas maybe a week ago and he seemed fine, but after a few days he started having eczema on his hands and cheeks again. Nothing serious, but I have been giving them to him all week - 1 a day and the rash seems to be getting worse. So I have to cut him off of them (which he will not like!) Tonight I tried green peas and within 10 minutes of eating a bunch of them he had 2 hives on his wrist. So guess that one is out...too bad since he loves those too. It worries me since peas are a legume, which could mean he is allergic to nuts/peanuts. He had a small spot from his peanut skin test (when we did the eggs and others) but the dr said it doesn't look like he is allergic at that time, but since he seems to take several exposures to something to develop the allergy, then who knows. Plus the dr wasn't concerned since he is young and not eating nuts or nut products anyway. We are assuming he is allergic just so us and the other 2 kids get used to being careful.
I still have to try peaches. And his severe egg allergy - well that we will find out in June when he goes back to the allergist for tests again.
I worry about him since he is very limited in his fruits and veggies now. With the allergies and his pickiness it is getting hard! He will only eat carrots and sweet potatoes (and sometimes the sw pot are a no-go). He used to eat squash, but has been refusing it. I do puree broccoli in his meat patties. For fruit he can eat blueberries, grapes, apples and pears.
