Hey all,

I know Halloween is coming up so I thought I'd take a quick poll and see who is trick or treating, whose doing the great pumpkin thing and who is just plain blowing the holiday off and going out of town :)

Share your ideas and cute costumes with the rest of us!

We are doing highly-supervised trick-or-treating. DS #1 does not have any FAs, but we will monitor what he takes while we're out. Last year, I had regular fun size packs of M&Ms, and we swapped those for anything he had with peanut butter or nuts. DS #2 has FAs, so we will also be trading any unsafe candy for a few treats and presents that I have already purchased. Even though he's three, he knows what the deal is, and I'm sure he won't mind giving up his chocolate when he sees what we got for him! DD is only one, so we don't have to worry about her FAs since she won't be getting any candy. DS #1 is going as a red M&M (or a giant allergen to his two siblings, I guess), DS #2 is going as Winnie the Pooh, and DD is going as a pumpkin.

Happy Halloween, everyone. Stay safe!

Hi!
My non-allergic DS is in 7th grade and going to a friend's Halloween party.
My 6YO PA DD is going to be a cat. :)
Here's our conversation-
"Would you rather trick-or-treat and trade out your candy OR dress up and go out to eat with Mom and Dad?"

Her response:
"I am NOT eating any candy. Let's get dressed up and go out to eat!"

Settled.
We are going to let her get all dressed up and go out for a special dinner!

I was not up for any trick-or-treating but was ready to bite the bullet and go and just do some serious supervision. But, she made the decision, and I'm all for it.

I do know that Halloween has quickly become my least favorite holiday! :)

Stephanie
PS. Wish I had lotsa money and we'd be going on a special TRIP! :)

Fancy Nancy aka DD 5yo w/FA+ & Minnie Mouse aka DD 2 will be trick or treating!

we use the cheap plastic pumpkins for collecting, we remove any non edible treats and the rest is left for the great pumpkin.  We have tried so hard to have DD be a participant in activities and to teach her ( and her sister) that FOR US it's not about the food its about the people and the fun.  Because DD was so young when we discovered her allergies she really doesn't know any other way.  She is learning that other kids can and do eat the candy but we have pointed out that while she does have the allergies it is a fact of her life.  Just as other kids have glasses or may be in a wheelchair or have asthma and use an inhaler.  She told me that she was so glad that she has allergies because she thinks its easier to deal with than having to wear glasses!

I do have to say that the great pumpkin does tend to go WAY overboard with what s/he leaves in place of the candy.  All I know is that when the other kids are counting the candy or bragging about it DD has never felt shortchanged.

Have a safe weekend everyone!

We decided to Trick or Treat again this year.  We really thought about going to Busch Gardens but decided against it.  Too many people and too hectic to change into costumes and find a neighborhood to T&T in.

A has had FA her entire life, so she knows that all the candy will be sorted through, most thrown out and replaced with some safe candy we bought.  It's harder on the older 3 kids who have to watch favorite candies tossed.

I have a renaissance lady, 2 SWAT members and a princess.

Have a safe and happy Halloween!

Anne
