My son's allergies have manifested so far as a rash around his mouth whenever he eats whatever it is (rast results showed slight sensitivity to eggs, milk and peanuts-going for follow up testing).
We did Saturday and Sunday as milk, egg and peanut free and by monday morning his rash was fairly faded. I let him buy lunch yesterday at school (I told him he could before we decided to actually go completely allergen free until his appt). It was french toast which I assume either had eggs and/or milk in it. Yesterday after school (2.5 hrs after lunch) his rash was back. Then before dinner it was worse but still not that bad but noticable. This morning it was still about the same maybe a little better.
When I picked him up after school the rash was much worse (approx. 27 hrs after lunch yesterday). Its all around his bottom lip a few bumps on his cheek (In the top 5 of the worst I have ever seen it).
this morning he had a cereal we had checked with soy milk, then he had a snack that we had sent that was milk, egg and peanut free since the snack for the day (brought by another child in the class) was granola bars either with peanuts or processed with (we have not notified other parents yet about snacks because we want to be sure of what he needs to be kept from...I will just send a back up snack until it gets taken care of. Then for lunch it was from home.
Could this still be residual from lunch yesterday? Or was there something we missed or even worse something he is allergic to that he wasn't tested for that he had to eat today. Or could it be so bad because he was allergen free for two days and then was exposed to it again? I'm kinda confused and was wondering if anyone might have an idea or if their child (or themselves) had a rash the day AFTER they ate the product.
Thanks

What type of rash?  Eczema?  Hives?

My DD is allergic to dairy, and one of her symptoms is eczema.  It flares about 24 hours after she eats milk protein and can last several days.  (It can up to 2 weeks for the eczema to completely clear.)

Are you keeping a food journal right now?  I understand that life is overwhelming right now, but a food journal can help the allergist sort out if/what he(she) needs to test for (besides eggs, milk, peanuts).  (You can stop the food journal after the allergist appmt, unless you notice symptoms continuing.)

What foods were included on the RAST?  Only the Top 8 allergens?  (milk, eggs, wheat, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish & shellfish)

Here is a sample food journal.  Remember to write down everything he eats (even small amounts) and track the brand names too because ingredients vary.

One more suggestion - take a picture of the rash to show the allergist, in case the rash clears before the apptmt.

I'm sorry if this feels like "one more thing" right now.  Allergies (& asthma) can be overwhelming and feel like work.  It does get better, and you do adjust.

Hugs,

Anne

I think it would be considered hives. Its small red bumps (almost like a small pimple without the white head). He still had it quite a bit this morning but not as bad as yesterday. I thought we should take a photo but then DH looked at me like I was insane. The other thought was to feed him milk/eggs before the appt and let the dr see it for sure.
I haven't been keeping a food journal right now but I guess that would be a good idea. I am basically memorizing what he eats so I know if he has a rash later I can think about what it was that caused it.
His RAST test included more than the top 8. It was considered a basic food profile and included: milk (cow), wheat, corn, peanut, soybean, pork, beef, fish/shellfish, egg (whole), and chocolate/cocoa.
I think right now if feels so much like work because we don't know if we are doing it for nothing or what we really should be keeping him from. AJ is taking it all in stride but I know he misses some of the food. Like yesterday I said something about peanut butter and he was like I can have that? And I had to tell him no....we tried a soy butter and he really didn't like that so right now no peanut butter-type anything for him.
Thanks for the thoughts about the rash.
