I need a TIME OUT!
I spent 2 hours or so yesterday going through the kids clothes -- paring them down, making room for the new ones that we have...etc etc...My friends and I have a circle of hand me downs -- and I'm in the middle, so I have to give one friend about 5 bags of clothes to go through. So these bags are in the hall and their rooms are well organized when I left the house for my Monday meeting last night.
Well, this morning I go into the rooms. everything is mixed up--2 of the bags were opened and emptied -- and mixed in with their regular clothes and also some dirty laundry was thrown in for good measure.
I was FURIOUS -- so I told them all to pick up 3 items and put them in the appropriate pile (with some guidance) and then told them (3 girls, I have, 6, 4, and 2 1/2) to go and play in the living room while I finished the job. So, I felt ok, they did try to help etc.
but then it all hit. Lexi (my youngest) decides to start hitting the big sisters with anything she can find, so I'm in and out of the room like it's a game or something. UGH. Then Erika (middle child) tells Lexi to throw a rock (small rock collection from a trip we had) over her head, of course she gets hit in the head -- tons of tears. When I'm done fixing that -- there's more hassles. I just dont GET it!!!
Anyway, I finished up the job with the clothes and did the dishes and made them some snack -- but I really just want to leave the apartment. and never come back.
I feel guilty because I promised my girls I would never call them names, but today I said that asking someone to throw a rock over your head was STUPID.

Dear Sarah,

Sharing clothes is great. We were helped out with several batches for our little girl. But I put off sorting them out for several months and just did the "too smalls" last week. It is a hassle.

I can definitely relate to being overwelmed. I ran some errands yesterday and it was such a relief to get out of the house. I know my cutie is going to a terror! I don't think we are spoiling her, but she is very outgoing and energetic. All my friends with little girls regale me with tales of the adventures to come.

I think it's great that you could keep your cool enough to have your kids help pick-up. I try to avoid the namecalling too, but sometimes it just slips out. I think being aware is most of the battle.

Hugs and prayers!

Dee

Oh Sarah. I felt your frustration in that post. I have btdt as well. It is so frustrating to spend a lot of time and energy to do something and it is so easily undone. My kids do that regularly. LOL I can laugh now, but at the time it makes you just want to cry. I hope you all have had a better time of it the past day or two.

Here, have a big piece of chocolate cake and relax a bit:
