Was anyone else here bullied at school?

I was mercilessly bullied for three years at primary school. I was the class pariah with no-one to take my side, as all the other kids were too scared of being teased as well to do anything but join in the fun.

I always knew that this must have effected me deeply, but with all the other crappy things that happened during my childhood and adolecense it always got sort of overlooked. With the CBT I'm doing now it's becoming increasingly clear that the bullying has had a huge impact on the way I feel and deal with certain situations now - not just because of the bullying itself, but also because of the complete and utter failure of anyone in a position of power (like teachers and my parents) to do even the smallest thing to try and stop it. I'm left with strong feelings that no-one will ever help me but myself, and an easily triggered sense of resentment if I feel too much is being asked of me.

So, while I dig my way to the bottom of this unpleasant pile of feelings and memories, I did wonder if anyone else who lurks on this board might be tempted to come out and share if you had similar experiences. I've looked several times for resources on the internet for adult survivors of bullying and have found nothing at all. There's plenty for kids (as there should be) and also resources for adults being bullied at work - but nothing that I've found about the repercussions of these damaging childhood experiences into adulthood.

Maybe I'll have to write the book myself...

Carol
