We went to a funeral this weekend, my aunt died, and it was sooooooooooooooooooooooo Christian. Contemporary Christian music all over the place, God promising eternal life, Jesus rising from the dead.
It was very comforting.

*wink

The kids kept asking me, "Mom, why are they talking about god instead of your aunt?" Smart kids!

Listen, though, if you haven't been to a funeral lately, it's SO odd. I mean, the priest fellows actually smiled while talking about how we will see her again in the afterlife. They actually looked heartened that she was, even now, in the arms of her lord.

ACK...if I didn't have such a great husband and thinking children, I think I would have choked.

Gonna miss my aunt, though.

I am sorry about you Aunt.

That sounds just creepy. I despise that whole "she's in a better place" idea. Frig we have Disney World, cars, planes and love here how can it be any better?
Your children are right why weren't they talking about your Aunt? maybe because it's too painful and they need something else to focus on. UGH. How I could go on!

So sorry to about your Aunt.

It sounds like your kids really pay attention and think.

I was at not only a Christian funeral, but a southern Christian funeral recently. It can really throw you off balance. Most of it was about how everyone else needs to be saved, so they can see the deceased again.

I'm sure it is comforting to think you'll see your loved ones again, and you're right, it's easier to talk about that than the loss of a dear person...but if you don't buy into it, it just sounds so kooky.

I'm sorry to hear about your Aunt. (((hugs)))

You can totally see how this stuff comforts them, though. My love one died, but I don't have to be sad because I'll see her again. It's a nice thought, isn't it? I also think it's a nice thought that a fat man in a red suit brings me presents once a year. ;)
