Atheist/Agnostic Parenting

The subject of the funeral had brought this question to my mind. Does it matter to you what sort of send off you have? and have you prepared for the event? I ask because my Dh's family are religious and DH and I know well what each other desire for the final tribute( but nothing is in writing) but certain family won't understand this and blame the remaining spouse for the corrupt final planning.( keep in mind really we are on the outs now and forever anyway so what the heck does it matter?).
So I know full well that funerals are for the living so do you care what your final send off is like? and have to planned for it?

I want my organs donated and to be cremated. I do not want a funeral I love the idea of a drunken wake photos and memories. I want the fact that I enjoy John Mayer and Coronation street in my obit...
I would like to have a tree planted and my name on a bench in my local playground. Not too much to ask no? LOL

My husband and I have told each other what we want. OF COURSE no morose send off with lots of darkly-dressed folk. Instead, an organ donation, a cremation, and a send off by being planted or scattered under a tree. Bench donated with our names. Same as you.

My uncle was an atheist also and he had his ashes buried with a new tree planted in that spot. I loved the idea! His was an evergreen planted up in the mountains near their home. I like that because, eventually, the tree will die too. Seems kind of nice, really.

It has long been a peeve of mine to go to a funeral and the person who hasn't set foot in a church in 20 years except for a wedding or funeral is described as the most devout person ever. The minister at my great uncle's funeral even used his being a fan of the Cubs as a symbol of the faith he had.

I've told my dh if he lets any BS like that happen for me, I'll come back and haunt him.
