Hi ladies,

IVillage is putting together a slide show with the topic of "I wish someone had told me...about birth" and is looking for input from all the members.

So, what do you wish someone had told you about birth?

I wish someone had told me that you could get an OVERWHELMING push instinct before you were at 10. Honestly I'm still waiting on an answer of what to do about that. In both cases I had to get an epidural for an hour to stop me from pushing. That really bummed me out.

I wish that someone had told me that pushing out a baby in 10 minutes causes a REALLY SWOLLEN VAGINA!!! Whoa!

With my first, during labor, I wish someone had told me that I was going to have a baby. I was in labor so long that I forgot what I was working for.

I really wish that more people had talked to me about c-sections.  I was ok with having one if needed but didn't totally understand what happens afterward.  I also know that a lot of other women feel let down and disapointed if they need a c-section and I wish we were all told that it doesn't matter how the baby gets here it just matter that they do and they are healthy and it is no failure on our part if we need help.

I wish someone had told me that birth could be so different from anything else you've heard before. Everybody has a story and they're all so different but I still expected mine to be similar to the standard delivery. After practically crawling to the car because of contractions, I delivered my first in less than an hour after arriving at the hospital. And the second baby? We didn't even make it to the hospital to have him!
