Maybe I shouldn't be celebrating too soon....but I am going to anyway. I just got word that Gabe is finally getting a specialized preschool with NT and non NT kids! Which is exactly what I have wanted since he turned 3. It's only taken a year and half...almost two years to get the darn school to listen. Gabe is going to be going to preschool M-F 9am-2pm. It's a head start program and he is going in under an IEP. The most irritating thing about this is I asked about this program back when he entered the school district special ed for speech. They told me it didn't exist. What a load of CRAP!! But I'm going to let bygones be bygones....and get Gabe moving in the right direction.

The class that he is in will have 5-6 non NT and 6-10 NT kids. There is a reg ed teacher and a sped ed teacher along with an aid. He will continue to have his IEP and will still have ST...hopefully more of a group ST as he really needs to work on social language and pragmatics. The head start ends in May but Gabe will have ESY because he has an IEP...

It all sounds perfect for him. If it doesn't work we still have the option of a class with all non NT kids. I think the head start will work better because the NT will model language and social skills...and Gabe is very HF...

I can't come off cloud nine tonight....I get so emotional over all of it....and I am just so happy!

That sounds awesome Jessie! I love the hours of 9-2:00... longer than a half day that isn't long enough to accomplish much, but not quite a full day that is a bit too long for the younger kids.

Isn't it awful that the schools don't tell you what is really available? I had something similar happen when my son was in preschool, and they did it again when I was looking at mainstream kindergarten. I ended up putting him in a private school for kids on the Spectrum, but that school is no longer working out for us... but I really don't trust public schools either... so I am considering home school at the moment. Finding appropriate schooling for our kids should not be so difficult!
