I was just wondering what you guys think. I have a 10 month old daughter who makes no noise, does not babble or talk. She did not smile until 5 months and still only smiles occasionally and only to myself or her dad or sister. She does not like to be held and never has, she likes to play by herself. She does not point, clap, wave or anything like that. She also has a very hard time with feeding. She really does not eat anything escept for her bottles. It is a major task to try to get her to eat some baby food and if i can get her to eat it is usually only a very little amount. She really does not respond when you call her name, I would say like 30 percent of the time she will respond when her name is called but she does seem like she likes to play a little with her sister. If you guys have any advise i would appreciate it.

Hi there,

Have you mentioned these developmental delays to your pediatrician? If not, I would and make an appt to specifically discuss these issues and whether you have a right to be concerned or not. You could also seek out a developmental pediatrician as well. It may be too early for a specific dx of autism.

Hi, Kell

Honestly, at 10-months, I'd not worry. Kids develop at their own rate. Even if there was a delay developmentally, it wouldn't necessarily signal autism. It may just be a delay in some abilities or senses. Kids that age are so unpredictable. I have a perfectlly normal son who didn't really talk until he was two, and he wasn't even understandable until around 4. One of my daughters had feeding issues, and is totally fine. I know that doesn't make your worries go away, but some kids just grow at their own pace. But, I do agree with the op's advice: mention your concerns to the pediatrician, and get their take. Follow your gut, you are mom, and if you're still concerned, a second opinion can't hurt.

Take care,

Lily
