Thoughts on soy?

I was wondering how everyone feels about introducing soy products in place of dairy products for your LOs. Harrison recently developed very bad excema and a family member suggested I try limiting his dairy intake. I recently read somewhere that some studies have shown soy to raise the estrogen levels in males. Does anyone have any experience with this? He absolutely loves his milk and yogurt so I'm not too crazy about switching unless it's really necessary.

I cut out soy a couple years ago. I think if anything it's best to be cautious about soy intake. Since it's in everything potential for hidden exposure is very high. Our intake of phyto estrogens is probably a lot higher than we think. I have used soy to affect my cycle so I know it's very potent. I occasionally use fermented soy products. The kids love miso and seaweed soup but we go through phases on that.

For dairy replacements I would look into hemp milk and coconut milk yogurt/kefir. FYI I think it's wheat that gives me eczema.

Thanks for the tips. Do you have a good miso soup recipe? I think it'll take a little elimination and experimentation to find out what's causing his eczema. Hopefully, we'll get it straightened out. It cleared up pretty much on it's own and nothing changed in his diet that we could think of. Frustrating

I make my miso soup with 1 cup water, 1 tsp white miso paste, 2 tsp dried wakame seaweed, 2 tsp tamari, 1/2 cup chopped mushrooms.

Personally, I feel like everything is moderation is good.  Too much soy will indeed raise Estrogen in both males and females so it's good to limit the intake.  I DEFINITELY think dairy affects the skin (my dad is a dermatologist and believes in this whole heartedly).  We cut dairy out of our diet long ago.  We drink soy millk and my LO drinks soy formula.  When it comes time, we will switch her to soy milk but again- in moderation.

HTH~!
