Hello ladies...I bought some dry beans for my little guy...and i just cooked some (way too much, lol) and gave them as finger foods....it's a 15 bean mix

what interesting ways do you cook your beans? I have cook books with recipes for my slow cooker but it all involves canned beans...and i prefer to use the dried ones rather then canned ones...seems healthier

Okay I have to be honest with you. I can't cook dried beans!! The only ones I've had luck with are lentils. I tried to make a whole batch of black beans once and they just wouldn't get soft. I soaked them overnight in water and the next day cooked them for about 6 hours! They were still hard. I have no idea what I did wrong. If anyone on here knows of a solution please post!

Just to intro, I am getting ready to start my baby on avacado on 8/17 (just after his 5 month bday) He has been on rice cereal for 1 week and started oatmeal this week. I am going to try a new cereal next week and then avacado the following.

About your beans, if you are going to cook beans in the slow cooker you have to boil them for about 10 minutes first. I saw this on food network. They didnt really explain why. I think it was on paula deans show.

I did find this link...

http://www.centralbean.com/cooking.html#How%20To%20Cook%20Dried

it explains several different cooking methods and details the problem with slow cookers (citing the hard water can also cause problems).
