I have an 8 1/2 month old that is a very good eater. But she will not eat chunkier foods. I have to puree everything for her. I have given her small pieces of cooked sweet potato and green beans and she has gagged so much that she has caused her self to throw up!! Is there something that I can try or is she just not ready yet?

Awww....poor thing! She may just not be fully ready yet but I would keep trying slowly. Texture can take a little while to get used to and don't feel rushed, you have plenty of time for her to get used to chunkier foods. I was on purees for a while because I was most comfortable with them. What is her favorite puree? I would probably try to give her something that you know she likes and that can be easily mashed (like sweet potato, banana, etc.) and very slowly try giving her little bits. You can cook a sweet potato, scoop it into a bowl, mash it up really well, and put a little pile in front of her. Maybe she'll put some on her fingers and start to eat a tiny bit that way. Papayas and avocados other really soft "mashable" foods you could try

Sounds like texture issues. Heidi couldn't stand sweet potatoes when she was moving to chunkier foods. I think they were just too dry and stringy for her personal taste. Her first chunky foods included avocado, cottage cheese, banana, and chunky homemade applesauce. I also made sure to offer Cheerios and puffs during that time. HTH and hope your LO can learn to enjoy chunky foods soon.
