havent thought of that one- there is a german school not too far away from me that I can enroll her in for german classes- they start off at 3 yrs with playgroups-

There are also playgroups for german speakers, but I am not a speaker so it would be hard for me in order to practice with her.

Not sure if there are many german speakers in my area.

You could inquire at the German school or the German playgroup if there are any caregivers who might be willing to do a few hours a week of care giving and solely speaking German while doing so.  Heck, maybe you could even ask about a teenager who speaks German who might want some pocket change for coming in a few hours a week.

I really like Rosetta Stone.  I did the Swedish version for about 20 minutes and picked up quite a few words.  I don't know if it is worth $500 but I'm saying that because I wouldn't have that kind of money to spend on it ;)

Sorry this is late as I've not been able to get here before.

A friend of mine lent me a version of the Rosetta Stone for Italian which she had picked up one summer. This form of learning might work for some but it really doesn't work for me at all. I learned more in a class in two weeks (daily classes) than through a daily dose of the Rosetta Stone.

IMHO you would be better off doing a proper German class, at least to start, whether it's online or offline where you have access to a tutor and maybe join or set up a conversation class/group even if it's a casual one. It's one thing to be able to read and write, but another to be able to converse and for this you need a lot of practice, too. You can always ask one of the mums if you can meet up once a week to practice your German whilst the kids play?

Here's a link to some German resources:

That sounds like a great plan- I hope to stop by the school to see if there are any fliers for private lessons or anything of the sort.

thanks for the idea
