ECV update.....thank you Henci!
Good news....second attempt at ECV has turned this stubborn breech baby head down! First attempt (without any drugs to relax uterus) was unsuccessful. Doctor couldn't work through the many contractions I've been having. With a dose of nitroglycerine, uterus stopped contracting long enough to allow doctor to rotate baby head down. Baby tolerated procedure beautifully and doctor is confident that baby will not be able to revert to breech position.
Anyone faced with the same situation please consider an external cephalic version. Doctors here aren't too supportive of vag breech birth and I was an ideal candidate for the ECV (multipara, lots of fluid, posterior placenta, small to mid sized baby). It was a very high tech hospital experience (all the more motivation for me to get through this birth unmedicated)...in an OR with everyone prepped for the emergency c/s. But the perinatalogist/OBGYN who performed the procedure was fantastic and the unpleasant surroundings were well worth the outcome! Please be aware of this procedure and discuss it with your doc. My docs did not mention it to me.....I only knew of ECV from all the childbirth reading I've done (thank you Henci!).
I am very uncomfortable now and will not be surprised if the baby decides to make its entry into the world very soon.
