I am currently pregnant with my first, and I am going to find out the sex and register this coming week, I was wondering how you chose the bottles you used. I have been considering the Dr. Brown's bottles(DH heard good things about them from a lady in his unit) and Avent because I have heard good reviews on them. How did you choose what baby bottle you used? I plan to FF and not BF so its an important decision, what are your recommendations?

Hi, and welcome! Congrats on your pregnancy! :)

I basically went by the reviews of other people. So many of my friends had used the playtex drop in bottles that I had to give them a try, and since my DD loved them we stuck with what worked...lol! What I'd suggest is go by what other people are saying, and buy at least 2 kinds of bottles, that way if your baby doesn't like one kind you'll have another kind on hand just in case!

Please stick around, let us know what the sex of the baby is when you find out! :)

Welcome and congratulations!

I've used vent-aire, avent and drop ins and my opinion is that the drop ins are the best. All you have to wash is the nipple. With vent-aire, there are 5 pieces to wash but they are still a great bottle. It's up to you and your preferences. Do you have a dishwasher? If so, 5 pieces per bottle isn't that big of a deal. I didn't like the Avent, they leaked all the time and drove me nuts. Just want you want at 3 am, formula spilling on your newborn's face lol!

There are suggestions on this thread: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-ppbottlefeed&msg=10016.1&x=y

And also, www.viewpoints.com is a GREAT site! Click on 'Baby' and you can read hundreds of reviews on bottles, formula, toys, diapers, etc.

thank you ladies so much for your advice:-) I am checking out the old thread and view points now. We have a dishwashers so a lot of pieces isn't really a big deal for me, but a bottle leaking all over baby doesn't sound like a lot of fun. I guess I am going to do some more research and see what comes up:-)
Thank you!!

I also did research and was not a fan of leaking bottles.. so i asked a round.. and i picked Born free.. i love them.. they are really good no leaking.. and they make sippy cups and nipples so you don't even have to change the bottle later on if you don;t want to  you just change the nippple and buy the handel and you have a sippy cup.. also it was really good for my babies colic.. it really helped his tummy.. also becase of the shape of the bottle my lo was able to hold the bottle at 2.5 months.. he would also hold a nubby bottle too... no proping mind you he needed to be on his boppy pillow but he now at 6 months holds it like a pro.. we still have the bottles.. and now working on the sippy cups.  it does have more peices. but not big deal.. it is easy to clean if you use dawn liquid soap.. i find it works best.  or the dishsher top rack.   hth  oh you can also find an conversion part for if you want to pump right in to the bottle.. but only a few stores carry it.. i think it workswith medela and ameda pumps.
