The appointment went quickly and relatively painlessly. DD was not happy at all with what the doctor did to her mouth, but she calmed down pretty quickly afterwards when I nursed her. I forgot our nursing pillow in the car, so I nursed her on the easy side there and didn't try her on the more difficult side until we got home, but it was so much easier getting her to latch on the easy side right there in the office right afterwards :D Now that we're home, I nursed her again and, aside from some initial discomfort, it was painless! And everything was the right shape afterwards, too! She also popped off on her own, which she hasn't been doing much of before now and never on the left side. She probably was having a pretty tough time of getting enough from that side, right?

Anyway, I do have one more question about this. I'd call the LC at Kaiser if I thought I had even a remote chance of getting through to her. The LC gave us a sucking exercise to do with DD. Do I need to do that any more? I'm guessing no, from how well this last nursing session went (sleeping baby who popped off on her own w/no pain!) but I could be wrong.

Thanks!

Tara

Trust your good instincts, if it's not broken, no need to fix it!!

When latching try to bring the lower lip in first further away from the nipple than the upper lip. That may take away even that initial discomfort. Here's a very long winded description...probably far more than you need but it may help anyway.

Glad things went well!

Fortunately, the discomfort has faded as my soreness has gone away. We've had a couple of not so good latches last night, but none today. I guess all that work I put in last week before we found out she was tongue tied is working in my favor. The only problem we seem to be having, now, is my DD seems to be getting milk faster than she was used to. I don't think it's a real problem, though, just a matter of her getting used to things working how they should, now, kwim?

Thanks!

Tara
