Hi -

I'm sure that this question has come up before - but after searching for a bit - I haven't found it.  I am nursing my one year old (and OK - still nursing my 4 yr old, too!) and I am starting to come down with a cold.  I really don't like taking any medication - but I REALLY don't want to be slowed down by getting sick.  My parents often take Cold-Eeze when they are feeling run-down....and they truly believe it helps them to not get sick.  I am willing to try it - but the box does advise to check with a health care professional if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.  Is it a safe product to use while nursing?

Thanks,

Amy

Well, this table on kellymom (http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/vitamins/reference-intake-table.html) says that nursing moms shouldn't exceed 40 mg of zinc per day and 8 mg is the typical RDA.

The Cold-Eeze web site says each lozenge contains 13.3 mg of zinc and they advise you to take up to 6 lozenges per day. This is JMHO but I personally would be comfortable taking a few of these per day but probably not the 6 per day that they recommend.

Does that help?

Dana

Thanks for your quick response Dana!  (Especially because the Cold-Eeze is supposed to truly be effective only if taken within the first 24-48 hours of your symptoms.)

Your answer does help.  I don't think that I would have taken the daily dosage of 6 lozenges anyway.  I tend to stay away from pills as much as possible - but I thought if taking a couple would help - I was willing to give it a try.  Who knows - it may even help if I can just convince myself that it will.  I'll add on the power of positive thinking! :)

Thanks again.  I appreciate your advice.
