Good Morning!!
My DS is 3 weeks old today and I *believe* that we have thrush. My son had white cottony spots on his tongue and nursing was so painful for me during latch, while nursing and after nursing. So much that I would cry during each nursing session. My ped saw my ds's tongue and gave him a liquid form of Nystatin and gave me an ointment form of it. The pain that I had during and after nursing has gotten much better...Every once in a great while I will feel it, but it's so much less that it's at least bearable. However, it is still EXTRAORDINARILY painful during latch. The ointment is helping the swelling go down and the skin on my nipple is much less flaky, red and dry...but it still hurts. Which leads me to my questions I have...when thrush is in your ducts...I'm pretty sure mine was since I had deep pain in my chest while nursing and after...but when it's in your ducts do you need an oral medication or does the ointment take care of that? Obviously it's getting better with the ointment...but should I be getting more treatment than just the ointment? Also, is it possible I should just see someone about his latch? I feel like his latch sucks but his lips are out and his tongue covers his gums...I guess I just feel this way because it hurts so bad when he latches...and I do feel like he isn't opening his mouth wide enough...but lol, he's got a tiny mouth. I just don't ever want this to come back again...I am an avid nurser...I nursed my dd for 25 months with no problems...and 2 weeks into nursing ds I wanted to reach for that formula sample so badly...so so so badly...
Thanks in advance for your help!!! :o)
