Does your child tend to watch other children from the sidelines but seem afraid to join in? Can he often be found playing alone at preschool or recess? Does she know all the answers at school but can’t find the courage to speak them? Do you just wish the rest of the world could get to know the wonderful, playful, talkative child you see at home?
It can be hard to watch our shy children miss out on typical childhood experiences. If we were shy ourselves, we hate to imagine them feeling the discomfort that we knew all too well. If we were confident and sociable, it can be hard to understand why they can’t be more outgoing.
Your child may be a bit on the shy side, may have a diagnosis of Selective Mutism, or may fall somewhere in between. Or maybe you were shy as a child and have some helpful advice to share. Please join us at the My Shy Child board to share your challenges, your triumphs, your wisdom, and your questions. We are a new but growing board, and we would love for you to be a part of our community!
