Your son can absolutely RF, and would be much safer that way. Kids can RF as long as they are under the RF weight limit for the seat (40 pounds for the MR65), and they have at least 1 inch of hard car seat shell above the top of their head. Kids actually seem to be more comfortable when RF a lot of the time, since their legs aren't just dangling, but instead are supported. They can sit cross-legged, drape their legs over the sides of the car seat, prop their feet on the vehicle seat back, or some combination of that. Remember that little kids are much more flexible than adults. Just look at how they sit when they're just around the house. To answer your other question, your daughter's seat is supposed to move in the way you describe, where the top of the child seat moves toward the vehicle seat back when lifted or pushed. It's called cocooning, and is perfectly normal. As long as the seat is moving less than an inch at the belt path (and less is better, of course), the install is fine.
