I totally understand that RF is so much safer than FF. My DS is 25months and RF. He is in a Cosco Scenera. It RF to 35lbs and 36inches.  in Sept DS was 30lbs and 35inches. He may be even taller now, because I noticed his pants are getting shorter on him this week.

How important is it that he be turned to FF after reaching the height limits?   Why does height limits even matter on RF positions?

Height matters based on torso height, not so much overall height. It matters in terms of RF because there needs to be a certain amount of shell over the child's head...basically to protect the head and neck from impacts, rebound, etc.

So as long as LO is under the RF weight limit and has at least 1 inch of hard shell over his head, he is fine RF. Once either of those limits is met, you either turn FF or get a seat with a higher RF weight limit & shell/harness height and continue to RF until you've met those limits.

He still has 1 more shoulder slot to go, so he must be taller in his legs than torso.
