Best carseat when you have no car

Hi all,

I am hoping you ladies might have some advice. I live in New York City, and don't own a car. Does anyone out there have recommendations on a carseat that is easy to install correctly in a short time? The only time we use a carseat is when we either take a cab somewhere, or ride with friends. We need something that we can install quickly and somewhat simply, when the cab is just pulled over to the side of the road. My son is 11 months and 25 lbs. We have a three in one carseat right now that we bought at Costco, and it's ok, but I find it hard to install. Also, I've never gotten confirmation that it's totally right, since we don't have a car to take to a police station to get checked for proper installation. I avoid vehicles as much as possible, but occasionally we end up in a car.

Thanks for any advice!

Stephanie

Hmm... that's a tough one. There's two things I could see wanting in a seat that is only used occasionally... you want it to be easy to install but you don't want it to weigh a ton either...

I don't know that any one seat will fit that bill...

I would look at the Sunshine Kids Radian (any variety) it's not LIGHT but it does fold and have a carry strap so that would make it easier to lug around with you, I'm not sure how easy it is to install though, some cars it's easy, others not so much (same could be said for almost all car seats though). I guess that would be my top pick.

You can also look at the Cosco Scenera, it only weighs 9# so it's really lightweight but it's not the easiest to install for some.

One that's REALLY easy to install is the Britax Marathon/Boulevard/ Roundabout 50, they're REALLY super easy to install in almost every car (every car I've ever tried) that said they're heavy and not super easy to lug around (I've lugged one through an airport before...not fun).
