They were fine when I put them on this morning. When I took them off YDD for nap, one of the AFOs was ripped, right at the ankle. Hers are custom fitted/casted - and I called and made an appt for in the morning but I have no idea what happens now. Does anyone know? She can't wear the ripped one, and I doubt she can wear just one because then she'd be even more unbalanced than she is with or without them. Do they have to completely recast her? Or order new one's and take another three weeks to get them? Does insurance cover them if they are damaged while playing? Is this normal, that they break or rip? Help?

I don't know who made your child's, but when ours have ever had problems, the PT or I shipped them back to the manufacturer and they repaired them and we had them back lightening-fast, no charge. I hope this works out in your favor. Our children's were made by Cascade.

They were made locally I went this morning but they didn't save the casts so she has to be re-casted. Apparently they save some of them, I'm going to request they get saved this time in case it happens again. They take three weeks to make.

Today was the first day she's been without them since she got them, and she was collapsing all day. That really made me see the difference they are making in her ability to not fall down when she is moving around.

Oh I do hope she can manage until you get them back!!! I know what you mean about how they help. Garrett's third pair went up to his calves, and they were so helpful that he almost totally quit falling. He was not picking up his leg from the hip enough, so his feet stayed too far behind, and he wasn't getting his toes up enough. So he was falling flat on his face...blood nose and bloody mouth frequently. In three months with those, he gained enough core strength and correctness in posture that we were able to go back to a lower AFO. Even now at age 4, he is so much more stable with them on.
Hope the three weeks fly by!! Good idea to have them or even you, keep the casts!!
Good luck!!

Wow, I wonder how that happened. Wierd. Sorry she is without them and having a hard time. Kristin has been without hers for 2 mo but she doesn't walk. She has not beenin the stander all that time though. We should have them back within a week finally. Hers were just outgrown and no one told me until school was starting.
Hope she does okay til the new ones are ready.

Kari
