I posted about it in Chit Chat but it didn't show up. I didn't want to double post it. But since it never showed. I'll just copy and paste it below. Nothing bad.  1st time casting experience. I'm very new and curious..

--------------------------------------------------

I live in Fort Lauderdale.

I just signed up my 3 year old with WOK this past Friday.

Sunday he went to the Chicco casting in Miami.  Today at 12pm he had a fitting. At 3:50pm I received a call for the job for 3 days in the Bahamas leaving tomorrow. I told them no because of finding last minute childcare but called them back in less than 2 minutes and while I was trying to find  my mother's passport number they replaced him. Within a total of 5 minutes.

What a roller coaster of emotions. I caught myself looking at the phone all afternoon. Then I had 5 minutes to plan my next 3 days and then got replaced because I took too long. Is this a normal way to feel? Is this what the industry is like?

Sorry to give so much information my first post but I am very curious about the industry and want to prepare myself mentally.

Thanks.

WOW what a crazy roller coaster ride. Did your agent tell you before you went on the gosee that you'd be expected to leave for 3 days on short notice? That would have helped, then if you had known maybe you would have turned down the gosee, or already arranged childcare just in case. My dd's agent always lets us know when and where a shoot will be when she calls us for the go-see. That way if we're not available for the shoot, then we don't waste our time (and the client's) going to the go-see.

Modeling can be crazy like that but I must say we have never been put in that position. Some of my dd's bookings have been on very short notice, but none of them required us to leave town for 3 days! And I've almost always been able to bring my son as a tag-along if I couldn't find a sitter. Modeling can be very competitive. Like you found out, there are cute kids lining up on every corner to take your place if you can't take the job. But overall my dd and I have had a fun, exciting, positive experience.

That's great that your son got booked, though! That is a good sign for his future success. I went back and found a thread called "realities of the industry" and bumped it up for you. It is in the top "getting started" section. I think the advice in that thread will help you! Good luck and much success to you and your son!

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely read it. I got myself prepared now with passport scans on file and last minute childcare etc. The agency did tell me about the dates but said there were 2 dates Nov 3-6 or Nov 6-9. I thought I could choose. Plus, in the back of my mind the whole time, I never thought they would pick him since all the other kids were so beautiful.
