Has anyone done PT with their child with club feet? My daughter Saylah is 7 weeks old and just got her DBB yesterday. I found a physical therapist that treats club feet. My doc did not mention this as a possible treatment. I was wondering if anyone has had any succes or not with PT.

Hi, my daughter Alyse, 15 months old, has had pt for her bilateral club feet since she was 3 months old. It helped her tremendously. The therapist also specialized in club feet and she used a french method, I'm not sure the name- something like D'maggio (?) We went three times a week at first. She did stretches, then taped her feet, and then put on casts, but the kind you can cut with scissors, not with a saw. She would do this serial taping and casting/splints every week. By about a couple weeks I noticed a major difference. My babies feet were already looking straight. The pt taught me how to do the stretches and taping, so everyday I would do that and then go in once a week for her to get the casts and then after 3 days I would cut them off and turn them into splints, which she wore everyday. We continued this up to this month, because it was time for her to have surgery- she needed a tendon release above her heel. So I think having therapy all these months was very effective, and even though she still needed surgery, the dr. said the stretching really enabled her to do the surgery better and close the incision. So, hopefully you will pursue pt for your daughter. I believe anything is better than nothing, and maybe you'll learn stretches you can do at home. Good luck to you and keep us updated.
