I do things one room at a time. It doesn't matter if it's cleaning or decorating. I do make a list of what I feel needs to be done in each room and then when I get to that room I do what is on the list and if I find something that wasn't on the list I take care of that too. I also make a list for shopping and just get a few things when I'm out, online shopping has helped me out a lot. I can check the boxes once the kids are down for the night.

I also make a list of things for DH and the kids to do one weekend and we all get busy and do our list. This works if the kids are old enough to read. When they were little I would just tell them little jobs they could do to help out.

I have to make lists or I'd forget everything. My
pocket planner helps a lot. I'd recommend dividing
tasks into manageable size pieces and cutting out
some activities here and there if they are less
meaningful or rewarding than other activities.

Remember to take some time for yourself once in a
while.

A couple of years ago I had a miscarrage right before thanksgiving. I was out of commission (mentally) for days, not to mention I had 6 kids at the time and my dh travels alot, so I was doing it all by myself... I knew I had to get it together before christmas. I made the kids sleep in the livingroom for a week (like a slumber party). I started upstairs and cleaned one room at a time (drawers, beds, closets, good ole deep clean) when I was done I locked the doors. When my house was finally clean, I gave the kids the  "keep it clean lecture" and let them all back in their rooms.  You would have thought they had a new house, they didnt want to come out of their rooms. It was nice.

I'll be listening closely (I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed, too)
