DD (who will be 5 in January) is looking for an AG doll for Christmas. She has a Target brand doll and has been taking good care of it. We also got a bed from a consignment shop for the doll and she enjoys getting it ready for bed and waking it up in the morning and dressing her. I am not sure if I should take the plunge and get the AG doll. She really wants Kit and the little dog Grace. I think she will take good care of it, and they last b/c of the quality, I just don't know if she will "get bored" of it and appreciate it since she is only 5. What do you think I should do? I also don't want to break the budget (trying to do $350 for both christmas and then her birthday in January). I have been looking on ebay, but they are selling for about $80 and if I am going to spend that much, might as well just get a new one. Then I think of the cost of accessories....ugh. I found 2 AG dresses (which she puts on her target doll) at my consignment shop as well for $9 each (both were complete with socks and shoes!) but the lady at the shop said AG dolls rarely come in. When I went on the AG site, those dresses were $24 each!!!!

I don't know if you sew or know some one who does. But many of the big pattern companies have patterns for doll clothes that are the size need for AG dolls and that would be way cheaper.

A quick search of Ebay found this store: http://stores.ebay.com/Lovvbugg

You might also check your local craigslist.

Since she has taken care of her target doll I would splurge and get her Kit. Both my dds have several dolls, Kit was my oldest dds first. My oldest is now 15 and my youngest is 10 and getting her 4th doll for Christmas. The dolls are excellent quality and even after many many years of play are in great shape. Both my girls got their first doll at 4 and have continued to play with them ever since. My oldest even at 15 will on occasion sit down with her sister and play. All of their friends have them and they are a popular slumber party accessory.

We also have lots of furniture and accessories, lots are from the AG store but many are Target, Walmart and Toys r us brand. I have sewn many a dress for the dolls and I have bought some at craft fairs and even some at Hobby Lobby. My girls often surprise me on what they find to use for the dolls. We even got tons of hand me down stuff from my much younger sister.

Yes the dolls and their stuff can add up in price but I feel its a great investment. Their resell value is thru the roof or they make great keepsakes too. I one time found a Samantha doll, her bed and 4 outfits at a antique shop for $25 for all of it. I bought it and ebayed it all seperately and made almost $400 on it all.
