Hi everyone!

I am wondering which would be better for our 3 year old daughter - Leapfrog Tag or Tag Jr. She turned 3 in August.

Our son has the regular Tag and she enjoys using it, but the books do seem a little more advanced for her right now. The board books used with Tag Jr. are more at her level right now and I like the fact that they are board books. She tends to press a little hard using the regular tag making marks in the books. However, I wonder how many years use she will get from the Tag Jr. (then again, most preschooler specific toys are outgrown rather quickly).

Anyhow have the Tag Jr at home for preschoolers? What is your opinion of it and is it worth it?

Thanks!!

Sandra

Just found this board!!  Thought I would comment.

We bought our DD a Tag reader (not the Jr) and she's 3.5 years old.  She LOVES them.  She pressed hard at first, but after a few times of helping her and showing her to press gently, she totally gets it.  I try to get the 4-6 year old books.  She doesn't really follow the words yet, but she likes me to do it when we read books for story time at night.  At naptime she takes her books and pen, lays down and "reads" by herself.  She usually just touches all the pictures, but she enjoys it.

I would also recommend the carry case to go with it.  DD like that she can keep it all together (and they don't get lost), and that she can open it by herself.  I figure it's a great investment, and in time she will get more and more intersted in the actual words.  Target is having a great deal on them right now I believe ($20 with coupons).

I haven't tried the leapfrog tag system. We have the older leap pad and I just got a bunch of the books and cartriges on ebay for DGS(3). We do have the bag to keep this in and it great as he will get his bag and sit down and read his books. I can tell you that I started buying leapfrog things 10 years ago and they last. We sold most of the things we had when we moved as we had to down size a lot. I am buy new things by leapfrog DGS will be getting the Scribble & Write for Christmas, his aunt picked it out for him.

I want to let you know that this company was started by a dad that was unhappy with the way the learning toys sounded and worked at that time. They also know that kids are hard on things so they sell replacment parts.

We have the leapfrog tag jr. for our 2 year old. We got it for him for his birthday. He loves it. The books are right at his level and the reader is easy to use with his gross motor skills. All you have to do to get it to "read" is push it once over the writing on the page. He loves to sit in our laps and "read" to us. I would recommend it. I'm sure he'll be using it for a few years before we move him to the leapfrog tag, by then his sibling won't be too far behind to take his tag jr.
