My doctor doesn't do it for C sections, but I know that others have different theories. I think you'd be okay to ask the following questions:
1) Why would I need a GBS test? They typically can't give you antibiotics and have them take effect in the time that it normally takes to deliver baby via a C section. So, are they just doing it so that they can monitor baby MORE once he/she arrives? I think understanding what your doctor wants to do with the information and/or how it might change your course of treatment would be helpful. They may say that they'd order different blood work for baby after birth if they knew you were positive - in which case, perhaps your middle ground is just to ask them to do that test. (It shouldn't be an extra poke for baby!)
2) Ask what happens if you refuse the test. You have choices - so it's up to you if you want to do it or not... you can ask what the implications are for your care and for your baby's care if you choose to refuse the test. This may also tell you something about your doctor if he/she gets defensive.
Good luck!! Congrats on your little boy! :)
