Eric Williamson, 29, is a commercial diver who grew up in Hawaii and rents his home with several co-workers. Williamson said his roommates were not home and he walked into the kitchen to make coffee about 5:30 a.m. Monday.

At about that time, an unidentified woman walking with a 7-year-old boy passed the front yard of Williamson's home.

A Fairfax County Police spokesman said officers arrested Williamson for indecent exposure because they believe he wanted to be seen naked by the public. Officer Bud Walker said officers also consulted the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office and they were given the green light to proceed with the charge.

Williamson, who is father of a 5-year old girl, says he's the victim. Now he's meeting with a lawyer to fight the charge and may attempt to seek Damages from Fairfax County Police.

If convicted on the misdemeanor charge, he would face up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.

What are your thoughts on this?  Was he in the wrong?  Should he have been arrested?

I need a little bit more information to really say if he deserves to be charged.

If the woman passing by looked in his window and saw his chest, she really wouldn't have known he was naked and I would say that he shouldn't be charged.

But, if he was standing in front of sliding glass doors (if he had some) looking outside completely nude for all to see, it's a different situation. Though if she saw him through the sliding glass door, but he wasn't standing in front of it for all to see (like if he were away from the door over by the counters or something), I don't think he deserves to be charged.

He was in his own home, minding his own business. And, I'm not sure about how it is there at 5:30 in the morning, but here it is still relatively dark at 5:30am, so the lady would have to have been really looking in to see what was going on (unless he was standing at a sliding glass door).

I wonder if they thought about pressing charges on her for being a peeping-tom (if they even do that these days).

I know.  I was trying to find more articles with more information but I ended up getting conflicting information (ie. this article I posted said it was a woman and her son whereas another article I found said a woman and her daughter, the other news source I had never heard of so I went with the one I posted).

What they were saying on the radio this morning was that:

 - The man was in his kitchen, at the counter, preparing coffee.

 - The window was the dining area window which would be several feet away from where he was standing

 - There were reports that the woman and her child were "cutting across his front lawn" as they were walking.  If true, then this woman was logically closer to his home than she should've been and potentially trespassing.

My opinion is that, regardless of the details, I don't think he should've been arrested and charged.  I mean, if you can't be naked in your own home than where can you be?  I also think that intent has to play a huge role in it.  If he was specifically standing right in front of the window, doing a dance to show off or what not, then I could see charging him.  If he's just going about his business in his own home, then no, I say he should not be charged.  From what I've read and heard so far, he was just going about his business.  The woman could've just as easily looked away and kept on walking.

ITA! Sounds more like a neighbor that has a problem with him and wanted to cause a problem. I wouldn't report any of my neighbors for being naked in their own house.

I just honestly think this is the most ridiculous waste of time money and other resources for his city/state. Do we not have real criminals to prosecute?

EVEN IF the man was standing in front of a giant picture window, and had himself backlight and was doing a belly dance....

Really who cares? Cover your kids eyes and walk the other way. If he offers to babysit, say no.

My guess would be he is a typical lazy man who either didn't close the curtains/ blinds or maybe never bought any, got out of bed, scratched his butt and thought...mmmm coffee.

Are we really this fragile?
