Ok i think we have hard water and i think thats whats making y diapers stink its not quite an ammonia smell just funkie when she pees in it. they were striped before i packed them away i spend days rinsing to be sure there were no bubbles. they did good for about a week now they are getting the funkie smell back could it be hard water. I know a lot of people who own homes in town have water softening systems.and i always get the white build up in the coffee pots on pans shower heads etc. i there something i can put in the wash with the diapers to soften the water up to see if it will help I have hemp prefolds, microfiber, and flannel inserts. any suggestion on detergent. Im using publix free and clear at the moment. i was thinking maybe a new detergent and a water softener would help. I also have used the great value brand with lavender before. is it also ok to use butt paste diaper rash cream with cloth diapers. my DD is prone to diaper rash and its the only thing that helps. thanks

You need to get Calgon water softner (should be on your laundry aisle in a grocery store). Use it on clean diapers to strip them and rinse at least 2x to make sure it's out (make sure you take the diapers out and dissolve the calgon in to the water well first add your normal amount of detergent too). I LOVE Country Save detergent though.
i did end up trying some calgon its liquid though all i could find.it does seem to be helping though im having to rinse 3 or 4 time to get rid of all the suds and im barely using any detergent at all.

iv washed about 3 times using the calgon now and it seems to be helping already id strip but i just dont have the diapers to do that so it will take a while to get rid of all the stinkies this way but its no where near as bad as it has been. im getting ready to make some new soakers with a product called zorb iv heard good things about it and that its not affected by hard water like other fabrics so were going to give it a shot holds a lot of water too and dries fast so i guess well see how it works out.
