Ok, I have to make a decision about this thing in my head. I went back to LA yesterday to see the Neurosurgeon and he layed out two options... both great options depending on the risk I'm willing to take.

Option 1: radiation.

Benefits. no hospitalization, no risk of death, remove the growth
Cons: leave me on pain medications;liver and kidney toxic for life(leading to dialasys) and have to go in periodically and have radiation to keep the size down to a minum. Paralysis, numbness and loss of movement in face, increases with each time. Loose hair( ok I'm a little vain).

Option 2: Surgery

Benifits: Should be able to remove the growth, immediate pain relief;no toxic meds on the liver and kidneys anymore, no chance of regrowth
Cons:Death(always for surgical proceedures), loose hearing in the right ear, possible numbness in the face, slight chance of loosing movement in the face. intensive care,4 days, Loose hair from sugery site.

Dh thinks surgery is the best long term option. and on paper it looks like it is...except for that pesky little death clause!

decisions, decisions, decisions.

I'm sorry. Haven't been on the board lately and don't know what it is in your head you're referring to - a tumor? I know you and I both had strokes. I've not seen my neurologist since November of 2003. I take a very low doseage of anti-seizure meds.

My mother has been strongly suggesting I see a new neurologist in her city. My mother not an advocate of meds and wishes I can reduce the amount and numbers of meds I currently take. I still haven't decided myself whether I'll continue to follow my current doctor and neurologist's advice on anti-seizure meds or seek a new opinion. I've never had a seizure before but I definitely don't want to have one either.

Many hugs, prayers and positive thoughts for a difficult decision that lies ahead. May you be blessed abundantly with whatever you ultimately decide.

~Keron

Yes I have a brain tumor. Very small, very vascular.

I've moved over to the 30-42 board. Love Crystal

Big Hugs to you my friend!  Those choices are definately not easy to pick but you have to think which benefits outweigh the others and go from there.  There are are always cons to everything we do in life.  You worry about death, this is when you have trust the Lord and have believe that the doctors know what they are doing or they would not offer you such option(s).  What is important is which procedure will allow you to have a longer life with your family.   I pray for you that you whatever decision you make will bring future health to your life and happiness.  Please Please keep us posted.
