freezer bag leaks/how to defrost

A friend just shipped me a lot of frozen BM, from July & August.  Of course the first bag I put in the fridge has a leak.  Do I need to toss it?

My baby almost 5 months, her baby is the same age.  Nutrition wise it OK to use milk she pumped back in July?

I'm planning on using frozen and fresh every day, any recommendation on ratios?

Thanks.

That's awesome that your friend sent you milk :D

Q. A friend just shipped me a lot of frozen BM, from July & August.  Of course the first bag I put in the fridge has a leak.  Do I need to toss it?
A. How did you thaw it?  If you thawed it under hot running water, then I'd probably toss it just because if milk is getting out then maybe water has gotten in.  If you did a slow thaw in the fridge and some leaked out but nothing got in then it should be okay.  In the future, place the frozen milk bag in another bag to thaw and catch any leaks then pour all milk into a bottle, heat, and serve :)

Q. My baby almost 5 months, her baby is the same age.  Nutrition wise it OK to use milk she pumped back in July?
A.
I hope so.  My 8.5 month old just downed 6 oz that I pumped back in April ;)

Q. I'm planning on using frozen and fresh every day, any recommendation on ratios?
A.
I don't know about ratios, but keep in mind that right now your body is making immunities against whatever is going around right now (possibly flu) and will protect your baby whereas the frozen, while fine nutritionally, won't protect your baby from the most recent bugs, virus, or whatever.  The frozen stuff will still have immunities from whatever your friend was exposed to back in July/August which is a major plus when added to the immunities you're giving your little one.

DYK, when milk banks collect breast milk for hospitals to use they combine the milk from several women that way the sick babies get the immunity benefits from different women with the hopes the babies will be better protected.
