Hello everyone. I found this website with the help of another EP on another forum and am so glad I found it. I have been lurking for the last few weeks..finding it hard to have anytime to put this post in, so sorry for the delay, but sure you all understand. :)

I have been EP for 3 1/2 mos. My LO, Madeline, was born by c section at 37 weeks and had a stroke after birth so was in the NICU for 10 days.  We tried BF for a month after she got out, but the frustration levels were soaring and decided to just EP for as long as I could. I am surprised that I am still doing it honestly!  I have gotten accustomed to it and although it is inconvenient at times, wouldn't have it any other way for now!

I had a couple questions for whoever reads this and can relate...how do you know if you have a YI of the breast? Mine are sore and itchy sometimes but not sure if that is just from all the pumping I do (I do 4-5 times a day)  or if I actually have something else going on...I have tried putting lansinoh on my pump parts and it has not seemed to help much...but the itching comes and goes.

Also, I have been fortunate enough to produce about double the milk my DD needs and have been putting it in the fridge freezer.  I am thinking about buying a small deep freezer, since my extra fridge freezer is totally filled with milk and since the 3-4 mos will have passed soon and that milk from the beginning will be bad. Any tips on storing the milk in an organized fashion? I use mothers milk bags by lansinoh and after my freezer shelves were covered in milk from 3 mos., I finally bought tubs to put each month in, but since it froze a certain way, I cannot fit that much in the tubs.  So I guess I just want to hear how any of you do it and if there is a better way!?

Look forward to getting to know all of you! I need support and don't have it really from friends or family since they all think I should have quit by now!

Megan

congrats on your lo.

If you think you may have  yeast infection then consult your dr... symptons very.. it may feel itchy, a slight burning.. tinging sensation.. if you put this off it coud lead to a more worst infection.

for your pump .. use a drop of olive oil on your nipples that will help with using the pump the L is too sticky to use.

when i frees i use gerber bags.. and place them in a small gift shopping back.. i make a small rectangula hole at the bottle so the milk back can be pulled out from the bottom and i place it in my freezer  but i have side by side fridge.. then i move it down to my deep freeze later on.  it holds way more milk that way...

I was also told you can use the freezer bags then place them in to larger zip lock bags.

hope this helps some

Since you're a HVP, a chest freezer will come in very handy, and the milk last longer that way.

The way I freeze: I use both Lansinoh and Gerber bags (whichever's on sale) and lay them flat in the chest freezer's tray to freeze, then stack them on their side in those throwaway aluminum pans. I got a huge stack of them at Costco for next to nothing. They stack well in the deep freeze and make it easy to rotate the new stuff to the bottom.

Oh... edited to add: Regarding the YI, what you're describing sounds like what I felt, plus my nips were BRIGHT pink. First round I had confirmed by my prehistoric Dr. (who refused to prescribe anything because I'm breastfeeding and just recommended Gentian Violet)... I self-treated with vinegar wash (1/2 water, 1/2 white vinegar) and generic Lotrimin AF. After the second round, I continued the vinegar wash as a preventative.

Thank you Kate!
Based on what you're describing, I think I do have a YI of the nips so I will either call my dr or try what worked for you. Also, great storage idea... Wished I would have started that in the beginning... I already have four big bins full and have yet to buy a deep freeze. My mom is my neighbor so I have the two oldest bins in her deep freezer but I already have 3 more bins. Wish I would have dried it flat like you from the beginning! Thanks again

I didn't use this method in the beginning as I didn't have the freezer and I didn't know I was going to end up an HVP. I started with the ice cube method but they just took up too much space. So my initial supply has been rotated out, thawing 10-15 ounces each day and ending up with more to freeze using the new method... and with the added benefit of finding out the my LO will drink frozen with no issues.

Now my whole freezer uses the lasagna pan method and I've stopped rotating for now to save on bags. :D
