I am trying to give my 7 month old some juice now in a cup.  He gets stopped up easy so the doctor has had us giving him a little juice every day for a while to help him go easier, but I don't want to keep giving him juice in a bottle.  I can't explain why exactly.  lol  I just think juice isn't his "meal" or "milk"  it's something to just drink and I want him to start to learn to use the cup.  I honestly have no real rationale to it other than, he is getting older and I would like him to learn.

I got Gerber's first sippy cup that won't spill with the soft top.  He will put it to his mouth but he gets mad because nothing comes out (obviously because he has to suck to get out the juice)  I tried again another day, he seemed to start to figure it out but again stops and gets mad.  Now he just thinks it a toy!  :)  My problem is he still should get some juice every day because he is getting more constipated lately but if I continue to give it to him in the bottle he will never learn.  What should I do?   A little of both? How do you mom's start your kids on cups?  Does it take just trying several times till they get it?

In the sippy cup I just give Izzy (8 months old) water. She plays with it and if it spills out of her mouth or on the carpet, no biggie. :) I did end up giving prune juice for constipation last week. I just put her on my lap and opened up the juice bottle and she swallowed it down. She loves doing "big girl" things like that.

And when I'm helping her with the juice bottle or a glass, she does much better at getting it down too. HTH!

i use a gerber sippy cup but if you tip it over, liquid spills out. i just put the tip of it to kayla's mouth and liquid came out and she was confused at first but drank it. then i would give it to her randomly with water in it and she would play with it and sometimes put it in her mouth and water would go in and eventually she learned that stuff comes out of the cup.

you can try that to help her learn how to drink from a sippy cup. now when i put the sippy cup to her mouth, she knows to drink from it.

It does take awhile to learn how to use a sippy. Just keep giving it to him, with water maybe so if it spills it doesnt matter, and let him play with it. Eventually he will get it.

Can you hold use an adult cup to give him his juice? Just sit him in his chair, or on your lap (with a towel, it could be messy) and help him drink. Most babies/toddlers love to drink out of adult glasses.
