My DH and I decided to add them to our registry and if we wanted to purchase something needed, we would purchase it from our registry. My family has all decided to buy one big item from the registry, so it works out good that way. If someone else wants to purchase something big, they can just look on the registry. After the baby shower is over my DH and I will purchase what's still needed with the money and gift cards we receive at the shower.

When I first found out I was preggo (i am 9w 4d) I was freaking out because of how expensive the essential baby items are (car seat crib ect.) Well this might sound bad but I called my favorite aunt to tell her I was pregnante and she was with a friend that knew someone that was looking to give away a used crib and changing table and I jumped on it I was estatic! Some people might not like the idea of using used items but we just bought a house and have only been married for about 3 months (2 when we found out I was preggo) and are struggling just to keep our head above water. We decided to save and buy the big stuff then let people add on to it at my shower in march or april (im due in may). The only thing is I am a little skeptic that any one will show up to the shower, I had a bridal shower in april of this year and I invited around 30 -40 people 2 showed up it was kinda sad but it could have been that this was my second marriage and people had already been to my first so that kinda made sense. I am just hoping we get a better turn out at the baby shower but I have a while befor I really need to worry and just started a new job that is female domanant and all can't wait for the baby to come (sometimes I think they are more excited then I am lol)

It would be my guess that you would probably have a better turn out at the baby shower then the bridal shower especially if it was your second wedding.

My husband and I are doing the same thing. We will try to buy whatever big stuff we can so that way all the smaller essentials will be available at the shower and then we can ensure that we will get what we want when it comes to the more particular styles.  My MIL has already volunteered to buy us a crib so we don't really have to worry about that.
