I am wanting my Christmas shopping to be done well before Christmas so I am starting now.  We have 2 kids and 8 nieces and nephews to buy for.  It always costs a fortune!

How do you all save for Christmas?

Mostly I would just really limit the dollar amount you spend on each child.  Obviously, each kid only gets one present.  Even $25 each starts to add up REAL quick...  What are the age ranges?

If you have a dollar type store nearby, that is a great place to buy things like books, coloring books, crayons, and certain small toys.

If there are siblings it can be nice to get them something to share. Like a board game or a two DVD set. That way if you were budgeting say, $20 per kid you could spend $30 for two kids and save $$$ Plus, as a parent you aren't bringing as much stuff home to clutter things up (which is why I wouldn't recommend getting a bunch of stuff from the dollar store--it isn't usually well cared-for because it is cheap so it ends up broken or is just more clutter).

You could also join the Disney DVD club--I think right now the deal is 4 movies a dollar if you have a code and then two more for about 1/2 off.

Books are always great too! You can get a few paperback books for very little money.

I don't know what I'll be buying eveyone for Christmas.  I did get one neice Sammy a guitar. Well I paid 10 plus shipping for it on Ebay. It's her bday and Christmas.  Since they are so close.  I'd like to be done with the holiday shopping before November 1st.  Well it's 4 neices and nephews I buy for then 2 sisters my mother and our son this year.  Dh I already got his holiday gifts.   As far as I know we aren't exchanging gifts on dh's side of the family like we usually do. We'd always pick names.  Buy just for our name picks.  I was told last year was the last big Christmas together since Mils passing May of 2008.   This whole holiday thing has me thinking about what will I be cooking for Christmas dinner.   Give or take  if we go with my side of the family for dinner Christmas Day like last year.   If not.  I might splurg.  Pop for a leg of lamb.  It's 8.99$ a pound and was told 1 leg weighs about 4-5 pounds.  That is at the meat market by us.  I'm not crazy about lamb.  I'll eat it.  I don't go out of my way to get it.  But dh likes it.
