confused with lay off and date of it
My lay off is to start after my shift on the 16th. That is this Friday. They talked of extending our time. That they have 1 person still out on sick leave. They had surgery. No date set of their return. Then someone must of quit, retired or otherwise over summer. Their position was never replaced. Then 1 or 2 people went to building services for permanent work. So they tell me. I asked 3 different times what is up. Is Friday my last day or not. They won't answer that. Oh we'd like to extend your time. But we don't have permission yet. Just giving us the run around. Yet on our lay off letter. It says we should apply for available positions in our skill levels. Well I applied for building services. Did not get it. Those are the cleaning people. Well they were looking I think someone with a drivers license. As sometimes that person drives a company van.
So I been looking for work. I have a interview set up for the 20th at 3pm. At a hospital. I see an ad for diet clerk. So I apply. Never done that before. It said must be able to use a computer. Well I can do that. You tally up menues for the day. Making a production sheet for the kitchen. So they know how much of each menu item that day. Those patients needing help picking their food. You go to their room. Help them based on dietary needs/restrictions. Enter their choices in a palm pilot(pda)and bleep it over to the kitchen. So the palms must have some sort of wireless internet connection. I told the hospital when they asked reason for leaving last job. I said I am to be layed off. My position is being eliminated. That I may still be working next Tuesday. I usually work till 1pm. So is why I need the late afternoon interview time. The hospital must of been willing to meet my wage specifications. Or they'd not of called. My mind is just spinning. I don't know what will happen after Friday. Yes I can collect unemployment in the mean time. But would rather be working.
