I had GBS with DS. They gave me antibiotics through an IV during labor, but other than being annoying to have the IV (I don't use pain meds, so I didn't need it for any other reason), it wasn't a big deal. DS was healthy. He even inhaled some of the fluid, but they weren't even worried about it because I had the antibiotics.

With DD, I assume I had it but I wasn't tested until a few days before I went into labor with her. The results weren't back before she was delivered. They kept us an extra day to monitor her just in case, but everything was fine.

With the baby I am carrying now, I have already tested pos again and been through one round of antibiotics. I am assuming I will still have it for delivery though, since I test pos every time I am tested and I went through a round this early with DS and it didn't make a difference.

HTH,

Jen

hello!! that DOES seem strange-but i had gbs with both pregnancies and i had one vaginal, one c section (an emergency-a baby that was trying to be born feet first which they didnt find out until i was dilated to 4-and then i went from 4 to 10 in less than 2 hours-she didnt give us much time!!)...but-i had a urinary tract infection with my 2nd-and they had to give me antibiotics afterward to clear it up-any infection in your body is not a good thing-and gbs can cause utis. thats probably why he wants to give the antibiotics to make sure you wont contract any infection prior to delivery...take care!!
