I mostly lurk but I did do a intro post a long time ago. Since I posted on the turning the brain off thread, I guess that I should reintroduce myself.

Tell us about yourself and your family. There's me (Chris, 57), dh (57), married 36 years, living in San Diego. We have 4 children: Joy (31, married to Adam, mom to Alex (4), Lindsay (2), and Parker (9 months). They live with us.); Erica (29, married to Brian, mom to Matilda, 11mo. They live across town); Angela (25, going to college and working. She lives 90 miles north of us with 2 friends); and Dylan (11, in 6th grade. He's the one who has been officially declared gifted).

What are you most excited about for yourself, your kids or your family in general this fall? Dylan is in a charter school this year. He is in classroom 2-3 days a week and homeschooled the rest of the week. It's going great and just what he needs.

Are your children trying anything new that is causing a bit of apprehension for them (or you)? just the homeschooling and the apprehension was on Dylan's part. I've homeschooled the girls so it's not new to me. But Dylan hadn't done it before.

Chris

Tell us about yourself and your family.

My and dh (46), with four kids ... Erin (15), Noah (newly 13), Sophie (10) and Fiona (6). We live in rural BC Canada and the kids are pretty much totally unschooled. Lots of music in our lives; everyone plays a stringed instrument, most play at least some piano, most sing in a choir.

What are you most excited about for yourself, your kids or your family in general this fall?

Hard to pick just one thing. Probably my eldest's plan to live part-time (4 days out of every two weeks) in the big city 7 hours to the east of us, travelling back and forth on overnight Greyhounds and big-city LRTs and transit buses.

Are your children trying anything new that is causing a bit of apprehension for them (or you)?

See above! My shy country mouse managing night-time downtown bus stops and transfers on her own. Fending off creeps on the Greyhound. So far so good, though!

That makes sense.  I would think that is one of the degrees that you might need the interaction and experience that only comes from human interaction.  Good luck to him.

Hi, it's nice to see you here!  Sounds like you have a fun family!

Good for you for not comparing your youngest to your older kids.  She will have her own unique talents!

Hi!

Max (my 6th grader) and I just had a discussion about showing work in math.  Just because you know the answer without showing work doesn't mean you can skip the process.  I don't really understand it, but I do know that not showing work will destroy your grade as you get into more advanced math classes.

I'm glad you son is so successful at scouts.  Maven wants to start girl scouts.  It's all new to me, so it should be an experience!
