"NEW YORK — Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani joined Sept. 11 family members and college professors on Tuesday at a hotel blocks from the World Trade Center site to unveil a plan to teach middle and high school students about the 2001 terrorist attacks."

Have you head of this? Does your school discuss 9/11 as a part of curriculum? Or is it discussed more as a topic on the actual anniversary of the attack? What do you think of this?

I doubt the curriculum mentions what I think the real lesson of 9/11 is: that a powerful country's citizens can be hoodwinked to the extent that they let fewer than 50 people determine a nation's path for the next ten years, bankrupting it both morally and financially in the process.

Hey Deborah, Just wanted to let you know that one of the editors here pulled your quote as part of an article she wrote about this curriculum. Here's the link if you'd like to read it~

Our schools don't have a 9/11 curriculum per se. The middle school addresses it peripherally through social studies by discussing what kind of impact various current events can have on their nation's history. Once a week they discuss news stories from around the world and look at the far reaching effects of what can appear to be, on the surface, meaningless events. They've discussed a fair amount of what goes on in the mid-east and why it's occurring, and they've touched lightly on 9/11.

Our high school has a "homeland security" program where they discuss quite a range of topics, incl 9/11 and how it's shaped our country's future (everything from technology, to medicine, business, security, etc). The very fact that the school HAS a homeland security program is due to 9/11, so it features prominently in the class curriculum.

How interesting about the "homeland security" program. Schools offer so much more today than when I was in school!
