Hello. Does anyone know where I can buy a good brand of herbal iron in the US? For a good price? I live in Canada, and at the end of my first pregnancy, I was told to take Floravit or Floradix, which I did. However, this being Canada, everything is pretty much double the cost of what it is inthe US. I think for a two week supply it cost me something like 44 bcks, and I just can't afford that throughout the entire pregnancy. But I am having real trouble with iron this time around, as Greenshield no longer covers prescription iron, and the over the counter stuff I have tried either makes me constipated, or si the type that is no easily absorbed.  I have looked online to try to find the stuff but nobody seems to carry it.  Floravit/Floradix doesn't have a lot of iron in it but it makes you absorb iron better, and in about a week's time, my iron levels had shot up last time.  I will consider other brands too, not stuck on this one.  Any ideas? We live right across the border from Detroit and nothing is really too far, we go up to a couple of hours away in the US for events and such, so getting somewhere is not a problem.

Thanks

Beth

I don't know of any online sources for Floradix to recommend, but totally agree that it's a great product! Another one that works extremely well in my experience is Hemagenics. It was given to me by my MW, and brought my iron levels up very quickly - and completely non-constipating. :-)

Thanks! I'll look for that brand.

I am not looking to buy online, just checking online for US stores that might carry Floravit/Floradix.  Going to start calling around to see what is carried in the US.

Hi,

I think that iron is best absorbed from food (and easier on the body), so you might want to check out what foods are high in it. I know that includes red meat, liver?, leafy greens, etc. Also--blackstrap molasses and chlorophyll are good sources. The chlorophyll goes down pretty easy by just adding a teaspoon to a glass of water. I know that there are other minerals or vitamins that if taken as well help absorb iron- can't remember which ones at the moment. These are all little things, but they can add up.

I use the Floradix too, with great results. I buy mine at Vitamin Shoppe. I looked up locations for that store in Detroit. Here is the link. http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/content/en/stores/listing.jsp?transaction=search&country=us&template=map_search&address=&city=Detroit&stateProvince=MI&postalCode=&radius=50&x=65&y=10
