Just got back!! All appears to be well!! Of course, if there were concerns they are not allowed to tell you as the doctor or midwife would tell you. But at least I saw a baby kicking, moving arms and legs, rubbing his or her face, and saw a heartbeat!! She said yes there is a baby, don't worry. I was so worried because of the spotting I had (which has stopped a last week).

I thought maybe the heartbeat was a bit slow but maybe that's just me worrying. Couldn't hear the heartbeat, just see it. When the actual heart was beating it looked good but she showed me the waves across the screen monitoring it and that's when I thought that might be slow. She was pretty friendly and open, which was great because i was so nervous. Some ultrasound techs won't tell you anything, zippo, and they are cold and silent throughout. I like this lab better than the other one, it's a different company.

She said baby measures at about 10.5 weeks, due date is approx May 16th. (I can say ha ha to my mom, I was right, it's May not April!! LOL) By the date of my last period I would normally measure 11 weeks, but cycles vary, and the timing in terms of when the sperm meets the egg also varies she said, which I knew. So my midwife should get the results within the next few days, probably late next week. Don't know if she would call if there was an issue or wait until our appt November 11th, but I am reassured for now. If the heartbeat is slow we will deal with it then but I think we should be okay. If the little one is surviving until now it is a good sign.

Technician said the spotting could be implantation, sometimes that happens late, like between 8-10 weeks. That would be good especially since I didn't know I was pregnant for a few days and I felt so guilty about still drinking wine (found out at about 5 weeks). Which would also explain how the pregnancy veins just started up around 9 weeks, as those are the connections the baby is forming, which carry the extra blood volume to and from him or her. I read that before that, baby gets its nourishment from the yolk sac and then once he or she links up to the placenta, gets its nourishment from the mother.

The pictures she gave me are four pics (I only got two when was pregnant with DS). They don't show much in comparison to what I could see on the screen, the flailing around. At one point she stopped moving the transducer and she said that's the baby, I'm not moving. It was really cute. Dh didn't come to the appt. He was going to but had a very bad cold and didn't want everyone there getting sick. He still had to go to class because he had an assignment to hand in, and normally leaves about 9:15 or so. But the good news is because of a flat tire/low pressure, he was still here when I got back so I got to give him the good news!

These past couple of weeks have been nervewracking for me and this is such a relief. I will take the good news and try not to worry about any possible bad news. She did remind me that my uterus is tilted back (i had forgotten), so it makes the uterus even deeper in my abdomen, hence harder to see.

For good news! I am so glad you had a reassuring ultrasound. Sounds like there is a good explanation for that spotting. I really think that if there was something as serious as a low heartbeart, you would be notified right away. Rest assured. :o)
