My little girl is here.
Short version
Shaina ( shay - na) Ann Marie arrived October 7th at 10:56pm , weight 6lbs. 15 oz. 19.5" long 36 weeks 2 days induced.
Longer version if you have time.
I went to the doc on Oct. 7th ( Tuesday) for another bi-weekly NST. My bp had climbed some but we had bad news about a family member the day before and I was super stressed about that so it didnt really help! Any way. I had developed gestational diabetes and with the slowly climbing blood pressures my doctor suggested with the added stress of my family members illness that I be induced and that way I could hopefully have a birth experience more of the way I wanted it .... Last baby I had to be put on Magnesium for the high bp and my doc knew I did not want the same strapped to the bed experience like that one.... I agreed though I was a bit reluctant because I did not want to be induced.. but I didnt want to be on mag either so it was one of those situations where I had to weigh the pro's and con's ... she was nice though and let me call my dh and discuss it with him first.
OK so we decided on the induction and by now it was 10 am and I was to be at the hospital at noon. I drove home, called our sitter and got the kids ready to go. Packed up the van and as soon as dh was home we dropped the kids off at the sitters. We were a little late getting to the hospital but were the only ones there so we got lots of attention quickly, the nurses were 'bored" and looking for some action LOL.
We told them of our plans to hypno birth because of my chiari 1 malformation diagnosis and the risk of an epi. We were a medical marvel for a few minutes as no one at the hospital had ever seen a patient with chiari 1 LOL, other than reading about it in their text books.. Heck I didnt even know I had it until last year so its not like its visible from the outside! Anyway they seemed on board with the hypnosis and even offered soft music and dimmed the lights for us.
Pitocin was started at 1:30 pm and soon my bh contractions picked up in intensity. I was already 2cm and about 50% effaced. Within the first 3 hours I was at 90% effaced but still a 2 cm. I was on the pit long enough that they let me get up and walk around the room as I needed to and use the bathroom. DH was really supportive and knew when I closed my eyes it was focus time and he did such a great job reminding me of what to do. I had my ipod playing in one ear with my tapes and the soft music playing in the back ground. It was all very peaceful . I did have pain with contractions but not like pain I have had with other babies. By 7cm I could still talk between contractions and moving in the bed wasnt to bad.
The baby unfortunately was not cooperating and they ended up breaking my water to move her head down. She was very high with a huge pocket of water under her head ( this is why I was still a 2cm!) They pushed her down with their hands as the extra water made them afraid the cord would drop down quickly but all was fine and she was now engaged just turned into my back... so no more dilating for quite awhile... finally though I did start to show some signs on the monitor that the baby had turned and sure enough when they checked I was 7cm. It wasnt long and I was 10 and ready to push.
It was all very calm and quiet. they kept the light dimmed and the music playing and told me when I was ready to push , no one counted to 10 they just let me push with the urge I felt and asked me to stop when the head was out. They did a bit of suction and then said I could push when I was ready and again no counting. The room was so quiet and calm when Shaina came out she as also calm. She gave a tiny squeal, no real crying and was on my stomach eyes wide open looking around. DH cut the umbilical cord and because she was a 36 weeker they had to let the NICU nurses and doc check her out real quick but she was fine and despite no crying she turned pick with apgars of 9 and 10. She came back to me right away and was only about 5 minutes old when I got to nurse her. She latched on like a pro and has been eating like a champ ever since. My recovery was pretty easy and I feel pretty good, still a little tired.
We got to come home on October 9th and have been settling in nicely and adjusting our routine to include yet another little girl.
Dh and I were talking and he told me he was so happy we did the hypnosis and decided not to call family until well after the baby had arrived so it was finally not a circus like our other childrens births. I will treasure and remember this as one of my best birthing experiences ever and highly recommend hypnobabies to anyone interested in having such an awesome birth experience.
Thank you ladies for your support
