School not folowing the I.E.P.
My daughter is a special needs child, who had an iep....
She is in 8th grade now. 60% contained class and 40% gen. class.
She is in sewing and came home up-set b/c the class was making a project that she was unable to do. She wasn't up-set that she couldn't do it,she was more up set the Teacher wouldn't modify a project for her, instead she was going to draw in the back of the class room......AND then I went to school and told them if she was in sewing she would sew. If you want her to draw, then put her in art....
I'm up-set b/c the first week of school the sewing teacher sent a note home stating the class would do a project to send $4.00,I sent the money along with a note saying that if D couldn't do class project the teacher had my permission to spend the money on another project, also if she needed more money or if she would like me to shop for it I would.....
A week later the school had their open house.I went to meet the sewing teacher, who avoided me ,until I was the only parent left in the room and she knew I wasn't going to leave..lol....I asked her if she had the chance to read My daughters iep....She said NO!!! I have not,It took everything in me to say...thanks for the truth and left the room.....
So, I was asking myself, who else hasn't taken the time to read the directions for my daughters education....You won't believe what I found out..
I called the school conselor,to see if she was going to her 1 time a week.....She told me she didn't have time for that,I told her wasn't a choice it was the law.....
I can't believe that teachers think that they are above the law.
I have a meeting tomorrow with the school to settle this, and may end up requesting a due process hearing, seeing that the head of education has yet to return my phone calls......I will post more tomorrow
