(pg & DD ment'd)

Hello Ladies-

I guess I'd better start with a quick intro as I haven't been on this board in years.  Quick back story: I started IVF in late 2004 in Seattle (when I joined the board) and after two BFN's (one fresh, one frozen) I got a BFP in June 2005.  My DD is now  3 1/2 and we are finally doing another round of IVF.

What's unique about me is that I have been travelling in Central America via sailboat since summer 2008 and decided to stop in Panama City, Panama and try IVF.  We're at a great hospital that is affiliated with Johns Hopkins.  The process has been definitely different that the US but still very safe.

So, to my question:  I underwent ER yesterday morning and they succeeded in getting 7 eggs (I only have one ovary).  Got the fert report today and 5 fertilized.  I'll definitely be going in for an ET on Thursday assuming no complications.  But now I'm still bleeding.  Apparently the RE dilated my cervix to get into my uterus (I have a funky path) but I don't remember bleeding on my last three ER's.

Does anyone have any experience with bleeding after an ER and did you go on to do a normal ET a few days later?  I'd be really bummed if we had to cancel the ET at this stage.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.  I'm so glad to find this board still alive and well!  This place was so important in my journey.

Karisa

Hi, Karisa,

I remember your journey very well, and wanti to pop in to say hello, and what an adventure you're having--I was in Panama once and loved it--maybe I'll go back for IVF!!  I've been trying to ttc #2, and will go for my second FET attempt in the New Year.  KUP with everythiing; good luck on this cycle; I have no experience with bleeding after ER but I'm sure you'll do great!

Hi Diana!

So good to "see" you again.  It helps seeing your photo as I remember your journey as well.  Good ljuck to you in ttc#2.  I'm now in the 2ww with a successful transfer today.  The doctor had four good ones to work with and put them all in.  Yikes!  But it looks like that's what recommended for my age (38).

Take care and I'll look forward to your FET journey in the new year.

Karisa

I experience bleeding after my ER. The bleeding worsened and continued for a few days even after my ET. It was unclear to me exactly why there was so much bleeding.  The doctors thought it was some type of infection. There was even significant clotting every time I peed. It was truly awful The doctors gave me antibiotics and I thought for sure we wouldn't get pregnant. But we did. We had a beautiful daughter in February.

I also experienced three scary episodes of bleeding during the pregnancy. I gushed blood three times at about 13 weeks, 16 weeks and again 18 weeks. The doctors thought that the this bleeding was a "blighted ovum" that stopped growing and was working its way out. (We had two eggs implanted, but only one took.) I mention this because it was such a horribly frightening experience. I thought I'd lost our precious baby each time, but each time I went to the doctor and our daughter was healthy and growing well. I didn't have any similar experiences after that the 18 week.

Wishing you lots of luck. Bleeding can be very scary, but you can still have a healthy, happy baby.
