I got my IVF Referral now just waiting.
We had our referral appointment last week.
We got to the fertility clinic about 15 mins early and I didn't even had time to read a magazine article before my name was called. Much to the annoyance of some of the waiting ladies
As soon as we got into the consultant's room the nurse said that I needed to get weighed and I stepped on the scales and weighted in at 79.5kg. (that was less than our scales at home). The nurse said 'Whoooow' bc I'd lost so much weight.
Both her and the consultant were very impressed, he even asked how I'd done it.
So I'm apparently 28% BMI - or I would be if I was actually 5 foot 6 and not 5 foot 5 and a 3rd. But I'm keep that one quiet
So 2% less than I needed to be. YAY.
The consultant then asked if we had put any thought into IVF and I said we'd done research on the HFEA website and been to see CARE.
He said that he can't refer us to CARE (which is what I thought), He can only refer us to St. Mary's or Liverpool Women's Hospital.
St. Mary's do sometimes pass their patients onto CARE if they are fully booked, but bc St. Mary's results are so poor, we didn't want to take the risk of hoping to go to CARE and ending up at St. Mary's so we chose Liverpool Womens Hospital.
Liverpool Womens Hospital is actually an amalgamation of NHS and a private company and has good results.
After we'd chosen, i asked the consultant which one of the two he would hav recomended and hesaid Liverpool.
So down to questions I asked:
We will get an appointment within 18 weeks (4 months) usually 2 months.
NHS will fund 2 cycles.
If we get Pg on that cycle and want a 2nd child we can use any frozen embryos but loose the 2nd NHS fresh cycle bc we would have a child.
I should be allowed 2 embryos to be transferred.
NHS pay for freezing and storage. We have to pay a fee to HFEA, admin fee, not sure how much, need to check it out.
If a child had a serious genetic problem and we were advised to /chose to terminate, we are not discriminated against and can still carry on with FET and / or NHS cycle #2. (We hope that we are never in that situation where it even needs to be discussed, but worth knowing)
I think that's it.
Now we are just waiting....
