So this might be a little long and im sorry just gotta see what everyone thinks. So i went into L&D last friday because i was having pains in my back and cramps and alot of pressure. when i got there they told me i was contracting every 2-3 mins but the contractions werent dilating my cervix. so they said i was dehyraded gave me fluids and sent me home. since then i been having some back pain but i've had back pain since 30 weeks. Well today around 1:00 i had my mom and gma come over because i was having realllyyy bad back pain and cramps and we were timing them and it was like every 2-4 mins but only lasting like 40 secs. for about 2 1/2 hours. then they went to like 5 mins apart. so me and my SO went to the mall around 7:30 tonight so i could walk the whole thing and see what happens. well the whole time i was walking i had to keep stoping because i was getting sharp pains in my vagaina up to my tummy and just alot of pressure and ugh it hurt so bad. so i did that came home and now im sitting here and its not bad how it was at the mall but i am pretty sore, my hips hurt, my back ugh could this be labor ? or is this just a false alarm. i was thinkin of just toughing it out tonight and calling the doc in the am. BTW when they checked me at teh hospital i was 1cm dilated 50%effaced and at a -2station. any advice or anything at all would be GREAT =]

It all sounds very frustrating and miserable and I relate.  I went through this same thing with my first and second child.  However, if the contractions are stopping or letting up, you are probably not in active labor.  The real labor pains don't go away.  You may be in early stages of labor and your body is gearing up for it.  Is this your first baby and how far along are you?  Either way, I'd say just wait and see what happens over the next couple of hours.  If the contractions get regular or unbearable, get checked out.  But otherwise, see how you feel in the morning.  Best of luck to you and congrats!

Hi, see my reply to your duplicate post in the folder below.  Also, remember that you can be fully effaced and 4-5 centimeters dilated without being in labor, for a few weeks - but on the flip side, it is not necesssary for you to be dilated at all in order for labor to begin

Good luck
